His work highlights the work of people in resource-rich countries, plundered and mired in misery. In his book <em>Exodus<\/em> he states: &#8220;More than ever, I feel that there is only one human race. Beyond the differences in color, language, culture and possibilities, the feelings and reactions of each individual are identical.&#8221; His book <em>Genesis<\/em> and, above all, the impressive autobiographical documentary <em>The Salt of the Earth,<\/em> directed by his son, Juliano Ribeiro Salgado (2014) provide powerful testimonies, of a terrifying beauty, that the spiritual regeneration of the human soul and the abused earth are interdependent.
