Silene was established in July 2006 and this year marks its twentieth anniversary. In its early years, it was closely associated with the Delos Initiative, launched within the Specialist Group on Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).<\/p>\n
While maintaining this international commitment, Silene has also promoted and carried out a diversity of awareness-raising, education, training, research, consultancy and policy advocacy activities at the Spanish, Catalan and local levels, always with the aim of integrating intangible heritage and cultural and spiritual values into nature and landscape conservation initiatives. Over the past twenty years, this work has taken the form of courses, seminars, workshops, conferences, publications, handbooks, declarations, advisory services, policy submissions, strategic support, as well as the association\u2019s website, which features a news service and a specialised documentation centre.<\/p>\n
All this has been made possible thanks to the support of many people, both within and beyond the association, together with public institutions and civil society organisations, and through a steadfast commitment to its founding values.
