This period thanking God for creation should be considered as an opportunity for all churches in Europe to join forces to work towards the protection of the environment. The document contains explanations of the origins of the proposal, which date from a pronouncement in 1898 by the then Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Dimitris I, as well as various reflections on this subject, the response at international and national levels and from within the European Christian Environmental Network, and future lines of environmental work within European churches.
