The manual consists of an update and review of the 161 guidelines published in 1992 (drawn up by a workshop of experts held in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park), which also includes the contributions from the workshop held in the protected natural area of the Drakensberg mountains (South Africa) in September 2003.
