Divisions going beyond politics, science and technology – and even ethics and morality – are to be found in the way people see the existence of the world: reality, truth, all that is significant. For centuries, social movements have spoken out about the abuse suffered by the natural world and religious leaders are passionate about the need for reconciliation and redemption. However, the problems persist and continue to worsen. The final section of this article discusses a number of the scholars, philosophers and ecologists who accept the metaphysical unity of reality, that is, the unity between the creator and the creation, of which humans are a part. The writings of these authors encourage the healing of the divisions between humans and nature and, as such, aim to promote a union between the divine, the human and natural spheres, all undertaken with an attitude of humility, joy and reverence.

The article seeks to restore the union between God and nature in an increasingly divided world.
