Declaration on Agrobiodiversity Conservation and Food Sovereignty

Parque de la Papa (Perú)2009

A declaration originating from an international workshop (Potato Park, Cuzco, Perú, 20– 29 September 2009) on methods and processes promoting indigenous biocultural territories in agrobiodiversity conservation areas. The aim of the workshop was to establish methods for designing, planning, implementing and managing areas for the conservation of domestic, agricultural and stock biodiversity.

The document calls for the recognition of the inherent sacred rights of the Earth and of the work carried out by indigenous peoples and local communities in the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity via protected agricultural models based on cultural traditions and indigenous knowledge.
