La simbologia cristiana dels arbres

Gordi Serrat, Josep2010

This article examines the main spiritual and symbolic values in trees in a context of Christianity on the European shores of the Mediterranean. It analyses a number of Christian texts that contain symbolic references to Mediterranean trees. As well, it provides as an example the teachings of St Francis of Assisi, a model of respect and love for trees and for the rest of the natural world. The author argues that recognising and discussing the intangible values of trees may help in the relationship between humankind and nature, and may also help to increase awareness of the universal values within natural areas and thus aid in their conservation and better management.
