El Chamanismo y las Fuerzas de la Naturaleza. “Un Análisis Sobre la Cosmovisión de los Pueblos Indígenas y Sitios Sagrados”

Aviña, Gustavo [et al.].2005

The document is divided into two blocks, each of which consists of six papers. The first deals with the conservation of natural sacred territories, while the second includes reflections on spirituality, shamanism, indigenous culture and nature. The final part brings together the findings of the two blocks into a declaration supporting a number of strategies for conserving natural areas worldwide. The following tasks are to be carried out: (i) work to develop and adopt existing legislation to ensure the protection of sacred natural sites and recognize indigenous rights; (ii) the promotion of research into sacred sites; (iii) recognize the sacred natural areas that meet certain conditions as part of the biodiversity of protected areas, provided they respect indigenous rights, (iv) conduct awareness campaigns; (v) support the transmission of traditional values to new generations; (vi) provide communities with information and training on issues of law; (vii) promote intercultural dialogue at all levels; (viii) promote and strengthen relations between indigenous authorities and government agencies; (ix) protect all holy places for their own cultural value, regardless of their biological and natural wealth; (x) include the issue of the protection of sacred sites on the agenda of the Second Decade of Indigenous Peoples (2005-15) and the review of the objectives of the Millennium; (xi) appeal to authorities and institutions to construct political dialogue and give support to communities; and (xii) present these proposals to indigenous communities to enrich and validate them.
