In memoriam Joanna Macy

Mary Joanne Rogers Macy passed away on July 19 at the age of 96. Internationally recognized as an influential teacher, writer, and activist, her work has influenced many people and projects around the world. Her wisdom and compassion allowed her to work on multiple initiatives in the fields of ecology, justice, and peace throughout her long life. A scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology, she intertwined scholarship with six decades of activism. Her extensive work addressed psychological and spiritual issues of the nuclear age, the cultivation of ecological consciousness, and the fruitful resonance between Buddhist thought and contemporary science.
