Thymio Papayannis obituary

At the age of 91, Thymio Papayannis left this world. A prestigious architect, Thymio carried out extensive work to conserve natural, cultural and spiritual heritage, both in Greece and in the Mediterranean basin. He founded the Mediterranean initiative MedWet, WWF Greece, Med-INA, and the Delos Initiative, within the Specialist Group on Cultural and Spiritual Values ​​of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. The last years of his life were dedicated, in particular, to the safeguarding of sacred natural sites, especially the monastic republic of Mount Athos, within the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Religious Interest Initiative, among others. We will never forget his vision, his commitment, his lucidity and his serene enthusiasm. Our deepest condolences to his wife, family and so many friends and collaborators who appreciated and admired him.
