The IUCN Delos Initiative Fourth International Workshop
Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq (Malta)2017
The workshop will have a primary focus on Sacred Natural Sites related to Islam, in the context of the overall aim of providing guidance for sacred natural sites in technologically developed countries.
The workshop will feature the presentation and critical analysis of case studies from different countries related to Islam, Judaism as well to others that are relevant to more than one living religion (including conserved areas, like the ‘himas’, which are not equivalent to other ‘holy sites’, but are based on Islamic principles). From the presentations, lessons will be drawn concerning the integration of spiritual concerns and values in the management of protected natural sites.
It is expected that this workshop will allow the Identification of new case studies and lessons to be included in a future complementary IUCN Best Practice Guidelines on Sacred Natural Sites related to the world religions.
