Island Spirituality. Spiritual Values of Lewis and Harris
This book explores spirituality through the lens of the island of Lewis and Harris, Scotland – the pre-Reformation “temples”, Reformation theology, colonisation, clearances and evangelisation under the last of the Mackenzies of Seaforth. Controversially, intelligently and certainly unconventionally, the author concludes that island religion, for all its struggled history and theological tensions, expresses a profound inner spirituality. It reveals itself in kindness that gives backbone to the community. It leads towards an ardent desire for God. The author concludes that it probably is the island’s greatest export to a wider world.
