On August 11, Annick du Réau de La Gaignonnière, better known by the pseudonym Annick de Souzenelle, passed away at the age of 101. A prolific Breton author of spiritual works inspired by the exegesis of the Hebrew Bible, particularly Kabbalistic, she explained that the global ecological crisis is the consequence of the transgression of ontological laws—which she herself defined—and that, consequently, it was impossible to halt the degradation without resorting to effective spiritual remedies. In 2003, the “Manifesto for the Earth” by former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev prompted her to develop a response, “For an Inner Transformation,” in which Annick argues that only a profound philosophical and spiritual transformation can prevent ecological collapse.
